Hard to believe how long it's been since I last ate here, but here I was, four years later. Smoke still trickled out of the screened in cooking room off to the side, the faded plastic pig hadn't moved from his perch on the roof, the parking lot was still potholed and even the sky seemed to be the same cold gray. But of course what I was interested in was if the barbecue was still good.
I like the handpainted menu on the walls:
The inside is quite small, with just a couple tables, but there is still the screened in eating area out front. I didn't get a good picture but the walls are covered with license plates and other interesting memorabilia.
They had several lunch specials, one of them was three ribs, a side and drink for $5.99. I placed and paid for my order and had it in my hands in under two minutes.
They say their food is 100% wood cooked. Smoke flavor was definitely there but not real strong. It seemed like they were partially smoked then finished (or at least kept warm) inside. I also like a little more crust on my ribs than I got. They were some meaty ribs and along with potato salad they were a filling meal. Even though the spicy sauce gave them a kick, I still could have used a little more flavor for the amount of meat.
