Dreaming of the Georgia Pig

Lately I have found myself wondering if this place is still in business. And if it is, is it as wonderful as I remember, or is it just the passing of time that has raised it to legendary status in my mind?

A few years back, when I was often traveling I-95 between Florida and New York, I tried whenever I could to make one of my pit stops at exit 29 in Brunswick, Georgia. It has the usual McDonald's and many other fake-food joints, but if you go just beyond the 20-pump gas station/truck stop, make a left on the dirt drive and park beneath the pines, you will find yourself in barbeque heaven. Walk up the creaking steps and through the squeaking door. After your eyes adjust to the dimly lit interior, you make your way to the counter which is right in front of the cooking pit to place your order. You watch as they chop the pork for your sandwich and can't wait to enjoy that smoky, slightly crunchy pile of meat on a toasted bun...that's about as good as it gets. I also have to say their potato salad was the best I ever had. Don't know exactly why but it was awesome.

Anyway, if anyone is in this area, let me know if this place is still around and as good as in my dreams. I just may have to make a drive up there.
